Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that a 30 Megawatts Independent Power Plant, located at Onijogangan near Ewekoro, will be ready for commissioning in the next eight weeks. The plant, which is the first phase of the Ogun State Light Up Project, aims to provide 24 hours uninterrupted electricity to most parts of the state, especially Abeokuta, the state capital ¹.
The project is a collaboration between the state government and private sector partners. Governor Abiodun stated that the project is in line with his promise to provide uninterrupted power supply to major cities and towns across the state.
During an inspection of the power plant, Governor Abiodun expressed his excitement about the project’s progress. He noted that the plant will use compressed gas as its main fuel, with diesel as a backup in case of disruptions to the gas supply.
The governor emphasized that the power plant will provide constant electricity to government institutions, including offices, health facilities, government quarters, police stations, local government offices, and higher institutions. Eventually, the power supply will be extended to private individuals and industries as the capacity increases.
Governor Abiodun also announced that similar power plants will be built in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota. The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a law establishing the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which will oversee the power sector in the state.
The Project Manager, Mr. Selvin Leo, reported that the project is 90% complete. He assured that with the necessary materials, equipment, and worker commitment, the project will be completed in record time.
The power plant’s completion is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy and residents’ quality of life. The governor’s administration has prioritized infrastructure development, including power generation, to drive economic growth.
In addition to the power plant, the state government has also invested in road construction, with over 600 kilometers of roads completed across the state. The governor has also announced plans to construct additional rural roads to improve accessibility and boost agricultural productivity.
The Ogun State government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and provide reliable power supply are expected to attract investors and stimulate economic growth in the state.
