RESIDENTS OF OGijo COMMUNITY IN OGUN STATE CALL FOR INCREASED SECURITY PRESENCE AFTER DISCOVERY OF DISMEMBERED BODY
Residents of the Sedu 2 community in the Ogijo area of Ogun State are calling for an increased security presence, particularly from the Ogun State Police Command, following the gruesome discovery of a dismembered body of an unidentified woman on Sunday.
The dismembered body, with the head and hands severed, was found wrapped in a sack in a fenced farmland within the community. The unsettling discovery was reported at the Ogijo Police Station on Sunday at about 3:10 p.m. by some residents who spoke with PUNCH Metro.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the dismembered corpse and stated that an investigation is underway to track down those responsible for the gruesome act, suspected to be a ritual killing. The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that preliminary investigations suggested the body was dumped at the location.
The crime scene was cordoned off, and the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for preservation and forensic examination. The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case to apprehend those behind the crime.
Odutola emphasized that the CP urged parents and guardians to engage their children in security discussions at home, highlighting the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in crime prevention. The police are calling on residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
A resident who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisal called on the police to conduct regular patrols to prevent such occurrences in the future. The resident recounted the shocking discovery, saying, “A member of the community saw a wrapped bag with blood dripping from it. When someone tried to check what was inside, a severed human hand fell out.”
The resident expressed concern about the safety of the community, saying, “They dismembered her body and brought it to our community. We need protection. We don’t want things like this to happen again.” Another resident, who identified herself as Ronke, expressed shock at how the body was dumped without anyone noticing.
Ronke described the gruesome scene, saying, “Her head was cut off. Her two hands were severed. They squeezed her body inside the sack. It is difficult to identify her.” The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and the police are working to apprehend those responsible for the gruesome act.
