NNPC Denies Selling Substandard Fuel Amid Viral Video Claims
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has vehemently denied allegations that it sells substandard petrol with a high burn rate. The company’s response comes after a viral video surfaced online, claiming that NNPC fuel does not last long in fuel tanks.
According to a statement released by NNPCL’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, the company is reacting to the misleading video, which it describes as “baseless and entirely unfounded” ¹. The video in question shows a content creator comparing the performance of petrol purchased from NNPC and Dangote.
The content creator claims to have bought a liter of Dangote petrol from MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, for N925, and the same liter from NNPC in Ojodu Berger for N945. He then poured the fuel into separate power generators, with the NNPC fuel stopping after 17 minutes, while the Dangote petrol lasted for 33 minutes.
However, NNPCL has refuted the claims, stating that the petrol purchased from its filling station was actually sourced from the Dangote refinery. The company emphasized that its fuel is “carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers”.
NNPCL also stressed that a significant percentage of the Premium Motor Spirit sold at its stations in Lagos was sourced from the Dangote refinery. This, according to the company, guarantees the quality of petroleum products supplied to its consumers.
The company has urged the public to dismiss the “fabricated content” and rely on verified sources for factual information. NNPCL remains committed to ensuring fuel availability, affordability, and quality for all Nigerians, while adhering to worldwide industry standards.
The viral video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users questioning the credibility of the content creator’s claims. Others have praised NNPCL for its prompt response and reassurance of its commitment to quality.
In a bid to clear the air, NNPCL has reiterated its dedication to providing high-quality petroleum products to its customers. The company has also emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media.
As the debate continues, NNPCL’s swift response has helped to alleviate concerns among its customers. The company’s commitment to quality and transparency is a welcome development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
