KEBBI STATE POLICE FOIL KIDNAPPING, RESCUE 60-YEAR-OLD VICTIM
The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully neutralized four suspected kidnappers, arrested one, and rescued a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa, in Suru Local Government Area of the state. The police also recovered ₦3 million, which had already been paid as ransom.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when armed men stormed Gobiraje village in Suru LGA and abducted Bawa. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Suru swiftly mobilized police operatives and local vigilantes to track the suspects.
The security forces tracked the suspects to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis, where a gun battle ensued. The police were able to neutralize four kidnappers and arrest one suspect with fatal injuries. Unfortunately, other suspects escaped with gunshot wounds into the forest.
Despite the challenges, the police were able to rescue the kidnapped victim, Umaru Bawa, unharmed. The police also recovered the sum of ₦3 million in ransom money, which had already been paid by the victim’s family.
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, praised the officers for their bravery, professionalism, and swift response. The CP reassured the public of the command’s dedication to fighting crime and maintaining peace across the state.
The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region. Over the past months, Kebbi State has witnessed a rise in security challenges, prompting intensified operations by law enforcement agencies.
