A tragic incident occurred on Friday during the Nigerian Army’s bi-annual route march close to the Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State. A driver rammed into the troops, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuring several others.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, the accident is currently under investigation by the 81 Division Military Police and other relevant security agencies. The deceased soldier has been deposited in the mortuary, while the injured are receiving medical care at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased soldier and prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded. He also called for calm among the public as the investigation into the incident commences.
The Nigerian Army has assured that the incident will not deter its commitment to training and readiness to discharge its duties. The Division remains steadfast in its dedication to safeguarding lives and properties within its area of operations, in accordance with the NA’s constitutional mandate.
