A significant step towards enhancing agricultural productivity in Nigeria was taken on January 28, 2025, as Heifer International Nigeria launched a solar irrigation project at the Park Inn, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The event, which aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices, brought together stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including farmers, community leaders, and development experts.
During the launch, solar irrigation systems were distributed to farmers, who expressed their gratitude for the innovative technology. The solar irrigation project is designed to provide farmers with a reliable and sustainable source of water for their crops, thereby increasing their yields and incomes. Heifer International Nigeria’s initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the livelihoods of farmers and their communities.

Comrade Mrs Busayo Soroyeun-Okanlawon, a community facilitator, attended the launch and witnessed the distribution of the solar irrigation systems to the farmers. The event highlighted the importance of community-based initiatives in promoting agricultural development and improving the well-being of rural communities.
The solar irrigation project is part of Heifer International Nigeria’s broader efforts to support smallholder farmers in Nigeria. By providing access to innovative technologies and training, the organization aims to enhance the productivity and resilience of farmers, contributing to the country’s food security and economic growth.
