A devastating attack by bandits has left one person dead and five others abducted in Akansan Garmadi, Rumaya Community, Kwassam ward in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The victim who lost his life is 27-year-old Piti Ezekiel.
According to Danbaba Katuka, the National Secretary of Kauru Local Government Area CDAs Forum, the bandits invaded the village on Thursday at about 10:30 pm, shooting sporadically and whisking away five people. The abducted victims have been identified as Afiniki Baban Gida, 46, Afiniki Timothy, 41, Talatu Timothy, 40, Manayi Abu, 36, and Richard Dalhatu, 42.
One person, Mr. Timothy Daure, 48, a traditional title holder in Kumana Chiefdom, survived the attack with a gunshot injury. Katuka condemned the attack, stating that it has caused a nightmare for the community and called on the government to take immediate action to address the security challenges in the area.
Kauru Local Government Area has been plagued by insecurity in recent times, with many households displaced and economic activities crippled. The community is ready to support efforts to address the security challenges, but they need the government to take decisive action.
Katuka emphasized the need for strong military operations to flush out the bandits from their camps. He also expressed concerns that if the government does not act quickly, the bandits may sack the entire Kauru community.
The attack on Akansan Garmadi is the latest in a series of bandit attacks in Kaduna State. According to reports, bandits have killed over 300 people and abducted nearly 1,000 others in the state between January and March 2021.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment on the latest attack. The community remains on edge, waiting for the government to take action to address the security challenges and prevent further attacks.
