The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, the wife of former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu. The rescue operation was carried out by Ogun State police operatives, who engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel and neutralized them in the swampy area of Ikorodu on Wednesday.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, Mrs. Odumosu was abducted on January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM, by four masked gunmen outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom, which was later recovered by the police along with four Ak-47 rifles, three locally made single barrel rifles, and ammunition of various calibers.
The police operatives, with the support of the Force Headquarters technical intelligence platforms, tracked down the kidnappers to a creek in the swampy area of Ikorodu, where they were planning their next attack. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the gunmen were neutralized, while four others fled the scene, abandoning their operational weapons.
Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed and is currently undergoing medical evaluation as a precautionary measure. She has since been reunited with her family. The police also recovered the sum of N10 million, which was initially paid to the kidnappers as ransom.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the police operatives and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, for the successful rescue operation. He reiterated the commitment of the Police Force to safeguarding citizens and combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The rescue operation is a testament to the dedication and resilience of the Nigeria Police Force in combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. The police have urged citizens to continue to support their efforts in maintaining law and order.
