Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the recruitment of an additional 1,000 Amotekun personnel to boost security across the state. This move aims to strengthen security, particularly at the grassroots level, and reduce unemployment in the state. The governor made this announcement at the passing-out parade ceremony of 690 Batch D trainees of the Corps, held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
The new recruits will bring the total strength of the Amotekun Corps to over 2,000. Governor Abiodun assured that the new personnel will be well-equipped with the necessary tools and infrastructure to perform their duties effectively. This includes additional patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other necessities.
The governor emphasized that the establishment of the Amotekun Corps is meant to complement the federal government’s efforts to address insecurity. The Corps will cooperate with other security agencies to tackle criminal activities in the state. Governor Abiodun expressed his satisfaction with the level of training, discipline, and conduct of the trainees, noting that their commitment and sense of duty will motivate those who left the organization to rejoin.
During the ceremony, Governor Abiodun urged the Amotekun personnel to secure the people through intelligence gathering and cooperation with traditional rulers. He warned them against using their position to intimidate or molest the people, emphasizing the importance of effective community policing.
The Commandant of the Corps, Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (rtd), appreciated the state government for providing the necessary resources for the smooth operation of the Corps. He noted that operatives of the Corps have been able to repair some broken-down patrol vehicles and motorcycles, while the government has provided new sets of uniforms and communication gadgets.
