Terrorists Kill Four in Kebbi State, Including Three Airtel Staff
A devastating attack by suspected terrorists from the Lakurawa group has left four people dead in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The incident occurred barely a week after the murder of two police officers in the same region.
The attack took place at a construction site where the victims were installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service. Three staff members of Airtel, a leading telecommunication company, were among those killed. The identity of the fourth victim remains unknown.
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the victims’ identities. While a staff member at Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital in Birnin Kebbi claimed the deceased were immigration personnel, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that three of the victims were indeed Airtel employees.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, swiftly mobilized law enforcement officers and the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, to the scene.
The victims’ bodies were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital. SP Abubakar revealed that additional tactical teams had been deployed to the area to apprehend the perpetrators and curb further attacks.
The police commissioner held a meeting with local residents, urging them to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to aid their operations. This collaborative effort aims to prevent future attacks and ensure the safety of the community.
The Lakurawa group has been implicated in a series of violent incidents in Kebbi State. The recent attacks have raised concerns over escalating violence in the region, prompting calls for increased security measures.
As the investigation into the attack continues, the Kebbi State Police Command has assured the public that everything is being done to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent future attacks.
