A devastating accident occurred on January 8, along Ajebo Road in Abeokuta, leaving a young apprentice dead. The victim, Jelili Soretire, was an apprentice at the spare parts section of the Mechanic Village.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a truck carrying granite stones rammed into Jelili while he was riding his bike. The truck, with registration number AAB917ZY, crashed into Jelili at the failed portion of the road near Kemta Housing Estate, adjacent to the Eco Gas Station in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
The scene of the accident was described as gory, with Jelili’s body getting stuck under the truck. His colleagues were enraged by the incident, but officers from the Kemta Police Station intervened to prevent further chaos.
The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving behind a trail of destruction and grief. Jelili’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
The incident has raised concerns about the state of the road and the need for urgent repairs. The failed portion of the road has been identified as a major hazard, and residents are calling on the authorities to take immediate action to prevent further accidents.
