Tragedy struck in Abuja on Monday as an explosion rocked the Tsangayar Sani Uthman Islamic School in Kuchibuyi village, Bwari area council, leaving two men dead and two others injured.The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that a team of police operatives, including its explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team and the area commander of Kubwa, were quickly deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the police cordoned off the area to protect residents and facilitate a thorough investigation. The victims were promptly evacuated and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and were suspected of bringing the explosive device with them.
Tragically, two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school veranda. The third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment under police guard. The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed that it was an IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene.
Mallam Adamu Ashimu, the owner of the school, has been taken into custody for questioning. The police have assured that further findings will be communicated in due course. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing concern over the rising threat of explosive devices in the area.
