A 27-year-old woman, Fatima Dzuma, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly killing her husband, Baba Aliyu, 25, with a pestle. According to the police, the incident occurred on December 31st in Lafiagi Dzwafu village, Katcha.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect had used a pestle to smash her husband’s head while he was asleep. Abiodun revealed that the police received a report about the suspected lifeless body of Baba Aliyu at around 6 am on December 31st.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that there had been an altercation between the couple the previous night, resulting in the husband beating his wife. The suspect allegedly waited until her husband fell asleep before using a pestle to strike him on the head, leading to his death.
After killing her husband, Fatima Dzuma allegedly tied the corpse with clothes and rope and rolled it to a nearby bush with a mat. The police were able to recover the body and have since deposited it at the General Hospital Bida for post-mortem examination.
The suspect, Fatima Dzuma, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution. The police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served.
