President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying it would be a golden opportunity for the president to win the hearts of the Igbo people. Chukwu made the remark while welcoming Tinubu to the South-East ahead of his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.
According to Chukwu, President Tinubu’s decision to release Kanu would be a significant step towards promoting national peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development. He emphasized that these values are essential outcomes of equity and social justice. Chukwu expressed his delight over the gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government under Tinubu towards the Igbo nation.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State for his impressive infrastructural developments in the state. These projects include the Enugu International Conference Centre, Enugu Smart schools, hospitals, and the rehabilitation of hundreds of roads. The group appreciated the governor’s efforts in transforming the state within a short period.
In addition, Ohanaeze Ndigbo praised Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, for the installation of Night Landing Equipment at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri. This project is expected to improve safety and efficiency at the airport.
Chukwu’s statement comes as President Tinubu prepares to visit Enugu State on Saturday. During his visit, the president is expected to commission several projects executed by the state government. The visit is seen as an opportunity for the president to strengthen his relationship with the Igbo people.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated its commitment to promoting the interests of the Igbo nation and working towards a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
