Tragedy struck on Thursday, Boxing Day, when two male pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run incident near Kara Bus Stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. According to the Ogun State Police Command, the accident occurred around 5 p.m. when the victims attempted to cross the expressway without proper caution.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the victims were rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, where they were confirmed dead on arrival. Odutola explained that the victims were struck by unidentified vehicles, which sped off after the collision.
The police spokesperson noted that the accident occurred at a point on the Isheri-Olofin corridor when the victims attempted to cross the expressway without a thorough view of the speeding vehicles. Efforts are ongoing to identify the victims and apprehend the fleeing drivers. The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
In a separate incident on the same day, a lone accident occurred along the Sapaade stretch of the expressway, involving a Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate LAGOS LSR 585 YH. The accident resulted in the deaths of two passengers and injuries to 16 others.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such incidents. The command is also appealing to the public to provide any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the hit-and-run drivers.
