Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has charged the newly elected Local Government Chairmen to deliver on their electoral promises by providing dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots. The 20 newly sworn-in chairmen, comprising 19 men and a woman, were inaugurated at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
During the ceremony, Governor Abiodun emphasized the crucial role local governments play in formulating policies and implementing programs that positively impact citizens’ lives. He stressed that local governments serve as the primary interface between citizens and governments, where development initiatives such as road construction, school provision, healthcare delivery, and market establishment are directly felt.
The governor urged the chairmen to align with the ‘ISEYA’ mantra, embracing innovation to generate revenue for council development. He encouraged them to approach their responsibilities with renewed vigor and a deep sense of purpose, revamping ethical standards to restore the system to its former glory.
As local government leaders, they are expected to translate state policies and national objectives into tangible benefits for their constituents. The governor emphasized the importance of working closely with stakeholders to deliver progress for the state.
Governor Abiodun acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the election and the confidence people have in the present administration and the All Progressives Congress. He stressed the need for the chairmen to improve living standards, prioritize security, and mentor future leaders to sustain their legacies.
The governor assured that his administration would bring the full weight of the law against those who disrupted the local government elections, regardless of social standing.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Sagamu Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Olasile Odulate, thanked the governor and the people for their confidence. He pledged to uphold good governance principles and deliver impactful projects to their respective council areas.
