My attention has been drawn to Governor Abiodun’s presumptive statement dismissing the relevance of opposition in the upcoming local government elections.
His claim that his administration’s “performance” has rendered opposition parties “unpopular” is detached from the reality on the ground.
The people of Ogun State are not oblivious to the shortcomings of the ruling APC government over the past five years in Ogun State. While the governor boasts of impactful projects and innovative ideas, countless communities remain underserved, with poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, and a lack of sustainable development at the grassroots level.
The governor’s assertion that opposition parties are invisible is an affront to democracy and further reinforces the widespread suspicions and allegations that the ruling party has perfected plans to rig the November 16, 2024 local government polls.
If opposition parties were indeed ineffective, why does the ruling party feel the need to discredit them rather than allow the electorate to decide based on the merit of each candidate?
As an opposition candidate, I am here to remind the people of Ogun State that democracy thrives on choice. The upcoming elections are not a coronation for the APC; they are an opportunity for the people to reject mediocrity and elect leaders who genuinely prioritize their welfare over political grandstanding.
I call on all eligible voters in Ogun State, particularly residents of Abeokuta South Local Government to make their voices heard on November 16 by voting for the Action Democratic Party
I urge residents of our dear state to come out in large numbers to remind the ruling party via the polls that power truly belongs to the people.
