A shocking crime has shaken Mubi Local Government Area in Adamawa State, as 19-year-old Aliyu Yaro was arrested for allegedly murdering his three-day-old baby boy. The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest on November 8, 2024 [1).
According to CSP Suleiman Nguroje, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Yaro’s girlfriend and mother of the baby, Safiya, reported the incident to the police. During interrogation, Yaro confessed to the crime and led authorities to the burial site in Girpata area, Mubi, where the infant’s remains were exhumed.
Yaro, from Kwacham ward in Mubi North Local Government, claimed he had impregnated Safiya and after she gave birth, she repeatedly asked him to take care of the baby. He alleged that he took the infant from Safiya’s house at night, sending her on an errand to fetch water, and then buried the baby’s corpse around 9:00 pm.
Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo expressed concern over the incident and ordered the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The swift action demonstrates the Adamawa State Police Command’s commitment to addressing violent crimes. Yaro’s arrest serves as a warning to perpetrators of heinous crimes.
