A devastating accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claiming the life of a policeman who was riding a motorcycle. The incident happened along the Kara Bridge when a truck collided with multiple vehicles, trapping the officer and his motorcycle beneath one of the vehicles.
According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the victim was an officer attached to the Mopol 20 Division of the Nigeria Police Force. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the accident occurred when the truck, with registration number FKJ 484 YA, crashed into a bus while in motion.
The impact of the collision caused the truck to swerve off the road and fall onto another bus parked by the roadside. Unfortunately, the policeman, who was maneuvering his way back to the office on his motorcycle, got trapped and died instantly.
Upon arriving at the scene, the LASEMA Response Team discovered that a Volvo truck, Toyota Hiace bus, and Mercedes bus were involved in the accident. Investigations revealed that the truck crashed into the Mercedes Benz bus, lost control, and fell onto the Toyota Hiace bus.
The LASEMA team used heavy-duty equipment, known as the Super Metro, to extricate the body, which was then bagged and taken to Ojodu Police Station for further processing.
Additionally, the ill-fated truck was recovered using the Super Metro and moved to a lay-by, while the Toyota Hiace bus was towed to Ojodu Police Station.
This tragic incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for caution when driving on highways.
