Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended condolences to the Federal Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces over the passing of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff.
Lagbaja’s death was announced on Wednesday morning by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, after he reportedly passed away on Tuesday.
Governor Abiodun described Lagbaja as a patriotic and gallant officer who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria. He praised Lagbaja’s sense of coordination and team spirit, highlighting his successes in combating terrorism and banditry.
Abiodun noted that Lagbaja redefined military engagement, tackling security threats with remarkable speed and effectiveness. His leadership and bravery earned him respect and admiration.
The Governor expressed that Lagbaja’s death is a colossal loss to Nigeria and the military. However, he finds solace in the late Army Chief’s impactful and patriotic life.
In a statement, Abiodun said, “As a gallant soldier of high courage and doggedness, he gave his best in defending the territorial integrity of his father’s land; may God Almighty rest his soul.”
Abiodun extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and Lagbaja’s ancestral home in Ilobu, Osun State.
The Governor prayed for the family’s fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, honoring Lagbaja’s legacy and selfless service to Nigeria.
