The Ogun State government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has launched “Project 10 Million: Know Your Number Control Your Number,” a free health screening initiative. This project aims to encourage residents, particularly those above 40, to prioritize their health by monitoring their blood pressure and sugar levels.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, led by example, undergoing screening alongside his colleagues at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta. Elemide emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups for adults over 40 to prevent heart-related diseases and diabetes.
Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Oluremi Mosuro, explained that the project’s objective is for individuals to be aware of and manage their vital health numbers. This includes monitoring blood pressure and sugar levels to prevent life-threatening diseases like hypertension and diabetes.
Regular exercise, such as brisk walking or simple workouts, was stressed by Mosuro as essential for maintaining good health. The outreach teams have already visited markets and motor parks to conduct screenings for all segments of the population.
The state government’s sponsorship of 50% of the health insurance scheme for public servants was also highlighted. This initiative enables them to access quality healthcare services at public facilities.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum were commended for their support. The project demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its citizens.
By taking advantage of this free health screening, Ogun State residents can take proactive steps towards managing their health and reducing the risk of life-threatening diseases.
