Controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Thursday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to reports, Bobrisky was apprehended while transiting through the airport en route to London. The social media influencer took to his Instagram page to announce his arrest, moments after disclosing his departure from Nigeria.
In a distressing post, Bobrisky cried out to Nigerians for help, claiming to have been badly injured during the incident. “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he wrote.
Earlier on Thursday, social commentator Isaac Fayose, younger brother to former Ekiti State governor, posted a photo of himself and Bobrisky as they boarded the same flight to London. However, Bobrisky was later removed from the flight by airport officials, as seen in a circulating video.
This is not Bobrisky’s first encounter with authorities. Days earlier, he was intercepted at the Sème border by the Nigerian Immigration while allegedly attempting to flee the country.
The recent ordeal follows an audio recording alleging that Bobrisky paid top-rank prison officials to secure a private prison outside Kirikiri prison, following his conviction for abusing the naira in April. The audio also claimed Bobrisky paid EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky denied the allegations, stating he was not responsible for the leaked audio and urged the Falanas to hold the critic, VeryDarkMan, accountable instead.
The EFCC’s arrest of Bobrisky has sparked widespread attention, with many Nigerians following the developments in the case. The circumstances surrounding Bobrisky’s arrest and alleged injuries remain unclear, pending an official statement from the EFCC.
