A disturbing video has surfaced, showing Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, physically assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja. Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North & South Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), allegedly attacked the driver following a dispute over a delivery.
The incident began when the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, requested that Ikwechegh step outside to personally receive his order and make payment. Ikwechegh took offense to this, feeling disrespected due to his status.
In the video, Ikwechegh is heard on a phone call with the vendor, expressing his outrage. “How can this stupid idiot come to me and tell me that I am supposed to come and meet him in his car and pick up a snail I am buying from you? I can make this man disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing will happen.”
After ending the call, Ikwechegh turned to Abuwatseya and issued threats. “You will not get a penny from me with this level of disrespect. You will suffer, I will deal with you.” He continued to hurl insults, referring to the driver as a “rat” and a “monkey.”
The situation escalated when Ikwechegh slapped the driver twice, fulfilling his earlier threats. Abuwatseya attempted to capture the assault, questioning the lawmaker, “Are you slapping me, sir?” Ikwechegh responded, “I just did, slap me back. How dare you?”
Despite the driver’s attempt to de-escalate, Ikwechegh warned, “Twice, you will soon receive the third one.” When informed that the entire episode was recorded, Ikwechegh showed no remorse.
On social media, Nigerians have condemned Ikwechegh’s actions, calling for accountability. @ndidi_patricia criticized Ikwechegh’s behavior, stating, “He’s talking about disrespect, yet he was the one being disrespectful.” @Franksvics expressed frustration, saying, “How long enough before we realise we have to do something about these politicians?”
Calls for investigation have also mounted, with @ayo_omooba urging the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into Ikwechegh’s potential involvement with missing persons.
At the time of this report, neither Ikwechegh nor the House of Representatives has issued an official statement on the incident. However, the video continues to trend, with many demanding justice for the driver and accountability for the lawmaker’s actions.
The public awaits a response from the authorities, seeking assurance that those in power will be held accountable for their actions, regardless of status or position.
