A devastating fire accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka area in Abeokuta, claiming the life of 80-year-old Mariam Salako. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, which happened around 1:00 a.m. ¹.
According to SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s Spokesperson, a distress call was received by the Area Commander, prompting immediate action. The Area Commander swiftly led a team of police officers to the scene, while the fire service was summoned for assistance.
The Ogun State Fire Service responded promptly and managed to bring the fire under control. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Mariam Salako, who lived in the building, was unable to escape and succumbed to the flames.
In a fortunate turn of events, a man identified as Baba Ali was rescued through a window by community members. He was reportedly asleep during the fire and his age is yet to be confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, with investigations ongoing to determine the origin of the blaze.
SP Odutola confirmed that the remains of Mariam Salako have been deposited at the morgue.
