The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned the recent violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, resulting in the tragic death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide. His body was discovered on October 19, 2024, with a fatal gunshot wound.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations suggest the incident is connected to a longstanding dispute between the Amagba and Obagie communities.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure those responsible face justice.
The NPF is committed to restoring peace and stability in the affected areas. Contrary to misinformation, Adejobi clarified that operatives responded promptly to escalating tensions in the Oke Aroma area.
Upon arrival, they found the community deserted and have maintained a consistent presence to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety. The police are working closely with local authorities and community leaders.
Adejobi emphasized that the deployment of police operatives is guided by situational intelligence and operational requirements, not external influence or pressure. The NPF urges residents to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information related to the death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide or other relevant incidents is encouraged to come forward. The police assure that all information will be treated confidentially.
