Residents of Kaduna State are lamenting over a prolonged power blackout that has crippled businesses and disrupted daily life. The blackout, which has lasted for days, has left many struggling to cope with the consequences.
According to affected residents who spoke with LEADERSHIP Friday, the situation has been exacerbated by the high price of fuel, making it difficult for them to power their generators. Mathew Adum, a trader in Sabon Tasha, appealed to the government to urgently repair the faulty transmission line responsible for the blackout.
“Our businesses are suffering due to the blackout,” Adum said. “No light in Kaduna for the past four days, and with the high fuel price, I’m struggling to buy fuel for my generator.” The prolonged outage has forced many entrepreneurs to increase prices to stay afloat.
Solomon Adejo, a barber at Banarwa, has raised his prices from N800 to N1,500 per head. “Businessmen are struggling due to this blackout,” Adejo said. “I’ve increased my price to cope.” The blackout has also caused frustration among residents, who are unable to charge their phones.
The power outage has brought economic activities to a grinding halt, affecting various sectors, including commerce and small-scale industries. Residents are calling on the government to expedite repairs and restore electricity supply.
As the blackout persists, residents are bracing themselves for further economic hardship. The Kaduna State Government and relevant authorities are under pressure to address the issue and provide relief to affected residents and business owners.
