The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the November 16 election in Ondo State, Hon Agboola Alfred Ajayi, has vowed to strengthen the state’s security network, Amotekun, to combat kidnapping and banditry in rural areas.
Ajayi made this promise during his campaign tour in Akure North Local Government Area, where he expressed concern about the state’s backwardness and pledged to change the narrative for the better.
The PDP candidate emphasized that he wouldn’t need the N1.2 billion monthly security votes currently allocated to Governor Aiyedatiwa, instead opting to utilize N600 million to create employment opportunities for youths.
“We will strengthen the Amotekun; we will create forest guards that would work together with Amotekun Corps in all the forests across the state,” Ajayi said. “We will end kidnapping, our farmers will go to farms with peace of mind.”
Ajayi, who claimed to have played a role in creating Amotekun, promised to reshape the security outfit to ensure effectiveness. He also pledged to empower farmers, ensuring sufficient food production across the state.
On education, Ajayi promised to provide free and affordable education, employing more teachers to improve the sector. He criticized the APC government, blaming it for the country’s economic woes.
The Director-General of the PDP Campaign Organisation, Hon. Clement Faboyede, urged citizens to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and exercise their franchise on November 16.
“Don’t allow them to steal your votes,” Faboyede stressed, highlighting the power of the people to effect change. He encouraged citizens to vote for the PDP to send the APC out of power.
The PDP campaign train continues to tour various local government areas in Ondo State, rallying support for Ajayi’s governorship bid ahead of the November 16 election.
