A violent clash between rival cult groups in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has left two people dead, including a high school principal. The victims, identified as Paul Eyo and Ekpe, were killed in the bloody confrontation that has sent shockwaves through the community.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2024, and Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed the arrests during a press conference at the police headquarters in Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo. Commissioner Eribo revealed that Ekpe, the principal, was gruesomely beheaded, while Paul Eyo suffered machete wounds.
Three suspects, Mfon Etim Uzoma, Robert Effiong Etim, and Malachi Williams Ubokulo, have been arrested in connection with the killings. The police commissioner assured that the command is working tirelessly to ensure those involved in the heinous crime are brought to justice.
This incident is the latest in a series of cult-related violence in Akwa Ibom State. Earlier this year, clashes between rival cult groups, De Balm and Iceland, claimed six lives in four months ¹.
