A disturbing report has emerged from Imo State, where the Nigerian Army has been accused of invading Ehime community in Mbano Local Government Area, resulting in the killing of innocent residents and the rape of female community members.
According to Comrade Emma Powerful, Publicity Secretary of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the military’s actions were unjustified and amounted to a smear campaign against the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Powerful denied claims that ESN operatives attacked Nigerian soldiers in the community.
The IPOB spokesperson alleged that soldiers stationed at Ehime Mbano LGA headquarters had been harassing community women, raping innocent girls, and forcing themselves on married women who resisted them. These allegations have sparked widespread outrage and concerns about human rights abuses.
Powerful emphasized that IPOB and ESN operatives are focused on dismantling the remnants of Fulani terrorists in the region and do not engage in violent or criminal activities. He urged the Nigerian Army to hand over the corpses of those killed during the invasion to their families for proper burial.
The Nigerian Army’s actions have been condemned by IPOB, which views the invasion as a deliberate attempt to intimidate and harm innocent civilians. The group is demanding accountability and an end to the military’s alleged propaganda campaign.
Eyewitnesses report that the soldiers arrived in the community under the guise of a routine operation but quickly turned violent, attacking residents and destroying property. The exact number of casualties is still unknown.
IPOB has long accused the Nigerian government of perpetrating violence against its members and supporters. This latest incident has further strained relations between the group and the government.
As tensions continue to rise, human rights organizations are calling for an independent investigation into the allegations of rape and extrajudicial killings. The Nigerian government must take immediate action to address these concerns and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing.
